A Guide to FDA-Approved Weight Loss Supplements

By Phillip England

Indeed, the industry of weight loss products and programs is very big in America such that many products claiming to make one lose weight have sprouted out like mushrooms in recent years and they are selling like hotcakes. The reason why this is happening is because people prefer quick weight-loss schemes as opposed to going through the old “diet and exercise routine”. But many of these products don't have the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval.

Many of the weight-loss supplements out now are created just to make a quick buck and not to serve as the “weight loss savior”. These supplements do not require prescription so they are not regulated the same way with prescription drugs which makes them even more dangerous. Here are some reminders from the FDA to help consumers interested in these diet products and supplements.

1. Any product that claims to make you lose weight effortlessly is lying. Losing weight takes more than just drinking a weight loss drink or eating a low-fat energy bar.

2. Diet patches that claim to absorb fat are proven to be ineffective. The FDA has seized millions of these from their manufacturers.

3. Pills that supposedly block fats or those who claim to act as fat magnets that will easily drain your fats do not work. The FDA has already filed several legal actions against companies that produce these types of products.

4. Beware of supplements that contain ephedra. Ephedra is an alkaloid chemical compound that supposedly promotes weight loss. Side effects may include severe skin reactions, irritability, nervousness, trembling, profuse perspiration, dehydration, itchy scalp and skin, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, seizures, stroke or death.

The truth is, science has yet to come up with a pill or supplement that will facilitate easy weight loss to its users. Therefore, any product that claims to do just that is completely deceiving the consumers. Unfortunately, many people still fall for this tricks.

The FDA also advices people to look out for products that contains the following words on their claims and advertisements:

1. easy

2. effortless

3. breakthrough

4. guaranteed

5. magical

6. new discovery

7. mysterious

8. exotic

9. secret

10. miraculous

Revolutionary Weight Loss Treatment

By Phillip England

You may have heard it from CNN or read it online from a blog or news website – people are starting to take Adderall for weight loss. The Adderall weight loss treament is becoming popular especially because modern society is obsessed with fad diets and weight loss regimens that provide quick and drastic results. Still, no matter how good some people may describe the results that Adderall has given to them regarding weight loss, this drug still has side effects that can cause health problems and drug addiction, which can even lead to death. If you still want to take it, at least consult with a doctor or dietician.

What is Adderall?

Before you pop this pill to start losing that excess weight, you need to know what it really does. Adderall is amphetamine combined with dexedrine prescribed normally to children with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) or ADD (attention deficit disorder). It is also known as dextroamphetamine and it has been around for more than 20 years.

The Adderall weight loss treatment to treat obesity

Obesity has become an alarming epidemic among young children, resulting in severe health problems even before they reach the age of 10. Some doctors are prescribing Adderall to treat obesity and avoid diabetes. Still, it is advisable not to take Adderall if you have a heart condition, glaucoma, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, or if you are taking antidepressants and other stimulants. Consult a health professional and never take a gamble.

Good or bad?

Whether Adderal weight loss really happens is still subject to debate. There are certainly some interesting success stories. CNN highlights the story of a boy named Ziai, who was prescribed Adderall by his doctor. Ziai was considered obese and the drug made him lose a lot of weight over the many years that he was prescribed to take it. The doctor states that he has prescribed the drug to 90% of his patients suffering from obesity and all of them lost weight.

Still, some people still criticize the use of Adderall for purposes other than for treating ADHD. Ask your doctor before taking it.

Weight Loss Management

By Fred Hawks

Many people go on diets and lose some weight, only to find that as soon as they stop dieting they gain all the lost weight back. The only way to achieve permanent weight loss is by making significant lifestyle changes.

Our weight is largely determined by the amount of calories (energy) we take in, as well as the amount we burn during activities. People who want to lose weight will need to take in less calories than they burn. Some people burn calories much more quickly than others, but the principle is the same for everybody. This is one of the keys to successful weight loss and most diets help you achieve this goal by counting the calories in your meals.

While this approach does have its place in a long term weight management program, it is not enough. Besides watching your sugar, fat and salt intake, the most important thing you can do to keep the weight of is exercising. You should make a habit of getting some type of moderate exercise every day. This will keep your body burning calories and improve your overall health.

It is also important that you don’t starve yourself. If you feel hungry eat some healthy foods such as fruits or vegetables. Occasionally you can even reward yourself with your favourite junk food (don’t overdo it though!).

Unless you have some type of rare disorder it is very possible to lose weight and keep it off for good. By making some lifestyle changes such as adding moderate exercise to your daily schedule and eating healthier you will achieve success. All it takes is a little discipline and patience.

How Aging Affects Weight Loss

By Peter Fisher

When you want to control your weight without feeling hunger pangs and at the same time reduce the visible signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin you need to concentrate even more on a 'youthful' diet. New research has demonstrated that you can slow down and even reverse some of the more obvious effects of aging - important when you realise how aging affects weight loss.

Look for appetizers and snacks with visual appeal that look good enough for a party and add wonderful salad combinations, soups, side dishes, and luscious desserts to create "youthful" concoctions. It really is easy to pack your system with anti-aging foods and food combinations. You don't have to become vegetarian, but meat eating creates more waste than vegetarian diets and that may in turn lead to heightened aging effects. When there is a lot of waste to be removed, it creates more wear and aging on the cells.

Healthy diets, permanent weight loss, fitness, anti-aging, beauty, staying as young as you can as long as you can and finding ways of adding life to your years should be the common goal for all of us. It will also add years to your life. Many of us do preventive maintenance for our automobiles, homes and gardens but neglect our health. Aging affects weight loss but health is far more important to everybody than a particular number or clothing size.

To maintain good health and maintain proper body function, some amount of supplemental vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and enzymes are essential. Anti-aging systems to help you restore youthful metabolism, energy, muscle, skin, immunity, vitality. I've found that there are certain programs which slow or reverse the effects of aging, support permanent weight management, address specific illnesses, dramatically improve overall energy and well-being. People trying to lose weight often notice erratic levels of fluid retention. This leads many to think that they are failing in their weight loss efforts when they are actually on the road to success.

The anti-aging approach will include drinking more water to prevent unnoticed dehydration and eating beans and lentils which are good in any weight loss diet because after you eat them you will stay satisfied longer making you eat less. They also help the digestive system to expel waste more efficiently. Minerals and vitamins are used in nutrition for anti-aging and weight loss as well as to raise general fitness, health and wellness.

Quite often people trying to lose weight will notice erratic levels of fluid retention as a result of drinking more water. This leads many to think that they are failing in their weight loss efforts when they are actually on the road to success.

As we age, our health deteriorates, our bodies are inexorably aging and we find that weight loss becomes more difficult and while most of us believe this is normal, research confirms that lack of deep sleep can also compromise your immune system, making you more susceptible to viral and bacterial infections. This aging effect greatly affects your youthful good looks and how you relate to those around you especially if you start to feel older and this is how aging affects weight loss.

N.B. You should consult with a healthcare professional before starting or stopping any diet, exercise or supplementation program, before taking any medication, or if you have or suspect you might have a health problem.

How to Find the Best Weight Loss Program

By Carl Walker

There are a ton of companies out there who promise to help you lose weight. How can you tell the companies that will waste your time, money, and energy from the ones that will actually help you achieve your goals? Here are some questions that will help you choose the best weight loss program for you.

1. Who is Going to Be Working With Me?

The best weight loss programs employ experts in the field: dieticians, nutritionists, doctors, exercise gurus, and professional counselors.

2. What Kind of Training Will I Receive?

Long term weight loss is not just about taking off a few pounds, but about keeping them off permanently. The best weight loss program for you will go beyond simple food education to help you to identify and avoid situations where you overeat, training you to live a healthier, fitter lifestyle.

3. What is the Average Weight Loss of Participants?

The best weight loss programs are glad to share their statistics with potential members, because they have a solid, positive track record of success. Steer away from any company that will not do this.

4. How Many of Your Clients Maintain Their Weight Loss?

The best weight loss program will focus on long term, not temporary, weight loss. Therefore, they should be able to tell you the percentage of members who keep the weight off over time.

5. How Flexible is the Plan?

The best weight loss program will take your food preferences into consideration. If there is no flexibility in what you are allowed to eat, the likelihood of being able to stick with the program for a lifetime is extremely slim.

6. What Will I Have to Pay?

The best weight loss program will have no hidden fees. If you are required to purchase their food or supplements, this should be revealed up front.

7. What Side Effects Can I Expect?

The best weight loss programs are able to describe their disadvantages and side effects up front, to prepare you to deal with them in advance.

By asking these seven questions before you start, you can ensure that you pick a weight loss program that fits your personal needs.

Food cravings and over eating are a symptom of us trying to tranquilise unresolved emotional issues that are leaving us with feelings such as emptiness, deprived and inadequate. 3 Reasons Why Weight Loss Diets Fail

By Mike Antoni

In my life I’ve been on tons of diets. I’ve tried Atkins, Weight Watchers, South Beach, not eating, “cutting back”, pills, shakes, juices, powders, bars, and just about anything you can think of.

Of course I’ve also had my thin friends tell me weight loss diets are so easy - just do it! I don’t know about you but one thing I don’t like is people who have never had a weight problem trying to tell you how to lose weight easily. They think we overweight people have some sort of control problem and that our weight is all our fault!

Now I’m not trying to say I’m not responsible for where I’m at today, because I am. But at the same time, I know gaining weight for me is easier than it is for most people. I feel like if I walk by a burger joint I can instantly pack on 3 or 4 more pounds, lol.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

We all have a choice at the end of the day. We decide how we want to look, how we want to feel, and most importantly what we’re going to eat. One of the reasons I think weight loss diets fail is because they are setup for failure.

I’m not talking about the food you eat, necessarily, although that can be a big part of it. What I’m really talking about is our mindset and the way we view ourselves.

1) Weight Loss Diets fail because we don’t adjust who we are as we get thinner. Anyway can lose 5 pounds if that had to. And if you can do it once, you can do it again and again. But too many times we start losing weight and something goes off in our head, something that prevents us from reaching our goal weight.

This is called the “Snap Back” effect because like a rubber band we have stretched to our limit and now must snap back because we fear breaking. We have to learn to stretch how we view ourselves so we can continue to grow and accept our new look.

2) We’re not eating for life. Most weight loss diets fail because we’re not eating for life. We’re eating to lose weight. This will NEVER work in the long run because you need to adjust your eating habits to a lifestyle you can live with. I’m learning this now as I change from eating large meals late in the evenings to eating smaller meals throughout the day.

I’m not always perfect, but I’m getting there, step by step, day by day. And that leads us to the final point of why weight loss diets fail.

3) We expect perfection, and when we don’t reach it - we binge. This is probably the saddest of all realities for dieters. I know in my past I did this so many times, sabotaging my diet and myself.

I could do well for weeks and then suddenly I’d screw up. Maybe I’d drink a sugary drink or eat some sort of carb laden sandwich. Instead of accepting that and just moving on with my diet, I’d justify eating more.

Oh well, I already cheated I might as well eat whatever I want. This sort of thinking is the kind of thing that has kept me from my goal weight. Not anymore. And hopefully not for you either.

When you deviate from your weight loss diet, it’s ok. Accept it and move on. You’ve got to, or you’ll find an excuse to quit again.

And those are the 3 reasons weight loss diets fail. In the end, it’s up to you (and me) to make a bold choice and stick to it. You can do anything if you put your mind to it. I know everyone knows they could lose weight if they had to. It’s just a matter of getting your mind wrapped around the idea.

Mike Antoni is an Internet Marketer trying to shed 280 pounds in 13 months. He's created a site chronicling his weight loss (complete with pictures and videos!) to let the whole world watch as he shoots for his goal. While losing the weight, he's also attempting to earn 1 Million Dollars from the site! You've gotta see this to believe it! Make sure you read all about his crazy adventure.

Weight Loss Secrets!

By Brian Bonito

Weight loss. Secret. How many times have you seen that 3-word combination linked together? More than once, I’m sure. Which leads naturally to this question: Are there really any weight loss secrets?

Well jeez, there must be because I don’t see very many folks getting thinner. In fact, our society is fatter than ever before! Ah, but you know all this stuff. I don’t need to tell you how many people are overweight. You are reading this article for some weight loss secrets. Of course people are overweight!

Okay, so hold on…

I’m going to give you a weight loss secret. This secret is so big is may shock you. This secret is so big, so gigantic that you may not even realize how bog it is when I tell you.

That’s scary. It’s “that” big. It’s so big that it holds the key to your weight loss future. You must embrace what I’m about to tell you; otherwise your weight loss efforts may be forever doomed to failure. You wouldn’t want that, would you?

Here it is. One word: Detachment.

Detachment from your current reality and re-attachment to a sub-reality that you currently cannot envision: this takes awareness. It takes an acute observation for what is now, and what “can be” in your very near future.

Simply put, you have to let go of your current physical expectations. You have to make a decision to let the weight loss results take care of themselves, and have faith in the weight loss process. Commit to doing the work, without fail. Get “into” the work. Diet. Exercise. Mental preparation. Enjoy the challenge of it all.

Forget (for just a little while) about the physical results. The world is moving so fast. The key to your weight loss success is to “slow down” so that you can recognize the world around you, and come to “realize” that 12-weeks from now it doesn’t matter.

12-weeks? Who cares? Will you be alive a year from now?

The results will take care of themselves, but not with an impatient mind. An impatient mind guarantees that you will be on the bandwagon for the next weight loss secret that comes along. An impatient mind guarantees that you are easy prey for the next diet guru’s celebrity endorsed, best selling, whatchamacallit.

A patient mind pulls back from what “is” and is able to recognize a different future, a permanent weight loss reality that “can be,” a future mentality that considers further into the future than the next 12-weeks. A patient mind sees the long-term perspective and intermingles it with present day observation. Then a patient mind takes action in faith.

That’s the secret. To become clear and gain a more detached view of the weight loss success you desire. To act on faith without expectation of somebody else’s results, without disappointment because having faith in yourself guarantees success awaits you.

Healthy Weight Loss Plans

By Tom Cruz

One of the challenges of losing weight is developing a healthy weight loss plan. You need to balance realistic expectations about a weight loss plan with keeping your health up, and being aware of how your body functions.

Most people who are overweight are endormophic, and their body is programmed by genetics to accumulate fat reserves over substantial muscle mass to weather lean periods where there isn't much food. During the Ice Age, and as hunter-gatherers, this kind of body type as a definite plus for survival. Now, in a post-agricultural society, where food and survival are all but assured, the programming that leads to this body type causes a lot of health issues.

People who are overweight put more stress on their internal organs, their hearts, livers and kidneys. They are much more likely to develop joint and bone injuries due to overstressing their bodies, and they will be at higher risk for cardiovascular disease, so the benefits of a healthy weight loss plan are immense.

The first thing to do when making a healthy weight loss plan is to incorporate exercise into it. While no amount of exercise will turn John Goodman into Arnold Schwarzenegger, or do the same for you, exercise is one of the two triggers you need to make a good weight loss program work. Your body expects you to do physical work– try to work up to three or four forty minute intense workouts per week, with light cardio workouts on the other days.

Once you've habituated your body to doing regular exercise, by walking, by lifting weights, or by playing something that gets you breathless, it's time to look at adjusting your diet to match. First, it's always better to increase your activity levels at the same time you reduce your caloric intake levels. You're trying to convince your body that you live in a time and place where game and food are plentiful, but that you have to work to get at it- this is the set of circumstances your body is built for.

When reducing your caloric intake, it's important to NOT neglect the taste of the food. If you get bored with the meals, you'll drop the diet. If the meals don't satisfy you, you'll feel you're depriving yourself, and you'll break the diet. Low calorie meals need to be very satisfying in taste and texture to do you any good.

Focus on meals that are high in dietary fiber, high in protein, and lower in carbohydrates. Your body is conditioned to want carbohydrates, particularly sugar, because they're the kinds of foods that give a quick burst of energy in emergencies. Your hindbrain is still watching out for predators, and it wants to make sure that there's plenty of energy available for when a leopard drops out of the suspended ceiling into your office cubical…so it gives you a craving for sweets.

The problem with this craving for carbohydrates is that your body will burn them in preference to burning fat, and will convert excess carbohydrates into fats, on the principal of storing food for leaner times in the future. So, moderate your carbs while you get lots of exercise…and keep an eye out for leopards in the suspended ceiling at work. Just in case.

Best Weight Loss Pills

By Anthony Voronoff

What are the best weight loss pills? If you are overweight or obese you have definitely asked this question many times. Whatever our excess weight can be, we always want to be slim. And the best weight loss pills have been always sought after.

Let's think a little on this philosophic question and try to answer it based on what we know about this weight loss aid we can't refuse of using...

We all know the easiest and safest way to live a slim and healthy life is to: consume healthy foods in a balanced diet regime, exercise and stay physically active, and get a sufficient amount of rest each day. Well, weight loss pills may offer a short cut, it might not always be the best route to take. If we make a decision to take weight loss pills, it is always important to understand how they work. It should be in you best interest to know what you are inserting in your body.

Which are best weight loss pills - prescription or natural?

First, weight loss pills are divided into two major groups - prescribed or over-the-counter diet pills. Do you like to know which are best? Well, consider the following - prescription weight loss pills are clinically tested and proven to work as they claim. If say Xenical claims to block 25% of dietary fats from your meals - those are clinically proven results. And approved by official medical organizations that guarantees drug action according to claims.

But prescription weight loss pills are not the perfect - I would say they are far from it and mostly due to side effects and unnatural chemicals applied. The same Xenical gives you a bunch of "additional benefits" like oily spotting, oily stool, possible nausea, diarrhea and more.

At the same time, prescription weight loss pills are basically used in case of obesity with possible dangers to your health. Their effects, side effects are studied and known, and if there's no other ways for you to lose weight naturally - probably prescribed drugs are the best weight loss pills to choose.

Weight loss supplements, or over-the-counter or natural weight loss pills, are not the best ones either, due to numerous reasons. Mostly because they don't back their claims. Have you noticed fantastic or amazing promises to help you lose pounds a day or permanent weight loss results?

The problem is most manufacturers don't support these claims with clinical studies. You cannot know for sure if you buy some real mix of ingredients proven to burn your fat or increase metabolism, or it's just placebo.

Another point of concern is natural or herbal ingredients. Natural does not mean safe. Consider this when choosing weight loss pills. Ephedra or ma huang were the most popular fat burner active ingredients and might be considered as best weight loss pills, until FDA found them being extremely dangerous to our nervous system and heart. Several death cases preceded the ephedra ban.

So our advice in choosing natural supplements - the best weight loss pills among over the counter are well known brands that everybody knows and many people use successfully.

Undoubted leader among natural weight loss pills in 2007 is Proactol - acknowledged by health professionals and customers as good and safe weight loss support.

Weight loss pills action types

We can differ weight loss pills by type of action. Here we have several major types like fat burners, appetite suppressants or fat blockers. They can be both prescription and natural weight loss pills.

Fat burners work accordingly to help the body in breaking down the fat, internally. Once released from fat cells, fat enters the blood stream as free acids that are then carried to muscle cells where they are to be burned.

Another, probably the most widespread pills are appetite suppressants. These pills take away the desire to eat and allow you to keep down the fat consumption. Most of prescription drugs are suppressants, like Phentermine, Meridia (sibutramine), Acomplia and several other brands. Appetite suppressants are the oldest type of pills to struggle extra weight, and many people use them successfully.

Their popularity grew even more after Hoodia Gordonii appeared on weight loss market. It's considered the best natural appetite suppressant that has not been researched thoroughly but showed good efficacy.

Another type of weight loss pills is gaining more popularity due to more safe and healthy effect comparing with others - fat blockers. Among prescription drugs it is Xenical, blocking fat by affecting lipase enzymes responsible for fat absorption. It helped many people lose weight along with good dieting regime, but it's side effects include abdomen discomfort, diarrhea, and the inability to absorb a lot of important fat-soluble vitamins and other nutrients.

Alli is a lighter version of Xenical with the same side effects and many medical professionals refuse to ally themselves with Alli as best weight loss pill because of moderate efficacy combined with many side effects.

Among natural fat blockers chitosan is widespread ingredient. There are many pills based on chitosan claiming fat blocking effect, but scientific researches proved weak fat blocking capacities of chitosan.

As fat blocker, acting somewhat like Xenical but binding fats directly in the stomach, Proactol now is a leading weight loss pill. It acts safely and helps lose weight steadily and prevent weight gain if we eat fatty meals.

The conclusion is simple - choose well known brands that many people used already and had positive results. There is no perfect weight loss aid - but weight loss pills are popular and one of the reasons is that they do help you lose weight more effectively.

The Pros and Cons of Popular Weight Loss Systems

By Carl Walker

One of the challenges facing every dieter is deciding which of the many weight loss systems out there is right for their specific circumstances. To help make this choice a little easier, here are some of the most popular diet programs today, with some information about how each works.

Counting Calories

The formula for weight loss is easy in theory: the number of calories burned in a day must be higher than the amount of calories consumed in food. One of the most consistently successful weight loss systems is to count your calories so that you don’t eat more than you need to lose weight at a reasonable rate.

Advantages: No food is absolutely restricted; you can eat anything you want, in reasonable amounts. Scientifically proven, meets nutritional guidelines.

Disadvantages: Counting calories is time consuming. It requires keeping careful track of everything you eat during the day and looking up calorie guidelines.

Counting Points

Weight Watchers and similar programs help simplify the process of counting calories by using points instead. This can make it easier to keep track of your goals for eating and exercise. Special Weight Watchers brand food comes marked with the point values, and any food with a nutritional label can easily be converted to points. Furthermore, a supportive group environment keeps people motivated and engaged in their weight loss.

Advantages: Weight Watchers is one of the most successful weight loss programs, with more members losing weight and keeping it off than most other plans. You have the flexibility to eat whatever you want in moderation, and nutrition, exercise, and healthy choices are emphasized.

Disadvantages: This commercial program can be costly, especially for people whose weight loss will take some time to achieve. Also, the group environment may make some people uncomfortable.

Restricting Carbohydrates

Weight loss systems such as Atkins and South Beach work by strongly reducing the amount of carbohydrates that you are allowed to consume. The idea is that a high level of carbohydrates increases the amount of food that is converted to fat, and that sugars can slow the metabolism.

Advantages: These types of weight loss programs allow people to eat as much proteins and fibers as they want without counting. Hunger pangs are minimized and weight loss is usually steady and reasonably fast.

Disadvantages: Carb restricted weight loss systems have not been scientifically proven to help achieve or maintain weight loss. Many doctors speak out against the dangers of cutting an important food group from your diet. Although people are not supposed to go overboard on fats on these diets, many do, calling it the “cheese and bacon diet.” This can lead to high blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
